Support For Women

Supporting Women Through the Court Process

I have been a panel solicitor for the Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS) in Tamworth since 2024 and regularly assist women experiencing domestic and family violence with navigating the legal system.

WDVCAS is funded by Legal Aid NSW and supported locally through Sora, allowing women to access support services and warm referrals where appropriate. Through this work, I regularly provide independent legal advice to women involved in domestic violence proceedings and related family law matters.

I have completed specialist training in domestic violence and work closely with support services and community organisations throughout the New England region. I am also a member of the Family Law Pathways Network in Tamworth and serve on the steering committee for Centacare’s Men’s Behaviour Change Program.

I regularly advise women in relation to:

  • Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs)
  • Applying for, varying or responding to ADVOs
  • Attending court as a witness
  • Police prosecutions involving domestic violence
  • Family law and parenting matters
  • Property and separation issues
  • Safety concerns and practical court processes

I understand that ADVOs can play an important role in protecting individuals and families experiencing domestic violence. At the same time, I recognise that the conditions imposed by an ADVO can sometimes have significant practical consequences, particularly for women with children, parenting arrangements, housing concerns or ongoing family law issues.

I also understand that many women feel anxious, overwhelmed or uncertain about participating in court proceedings, particularly where they have been asked to give evidence as a police witness. In some situations, women may no longer wish to proceed or may feel conflicted about attending court.

I provide independent legal advice so that women can better understand:

  • their rights and obligations,
  • the court process,
  • the effect and consequences of ADVO conditions,
  • what may happen if they do or do not attend court,
  •  and the legal implications of the decisions they make.

My approach is practical, compassionate and non-judgmental. I aim to ensure clients feel informed, supported and empowered to make decisions about their circumstances.
